Crisis
It turns out that crisis is just faster and more convenient for venting and distracting from Future Shock public unrest. E.g.
- 2001: 9/11 spawned the Patriot Act which funded a digital surveillance State.
- 2008: Monetary inflation through Quantitative Easing of the mortgage crisis flagged the dollar's reserve currency demise, begun with abandoning Bretton Woods in 1971, furthered under the 1973 Arab oil embargo, and culminating in 1980's normalization of massive increases in federal government debt spending.
- 2020: the worldwide covid pandemic, lockdowns and 5g rollout encouraged private wealth to invest in increased corporate and government power over people, labor and spending (K-shaped economy).
- 2026: war interrupts the flow of energy and goods, raising multilateral costs for maritime trade and supply chains, shifting capital away from traditional asset and gross domestic product backing to a race for hegemony in AI, hyperscale technology spending, consumption and programmable tokenization of private assets and government liabilities.

promise, not of this world, and we take it with us when we go.
