However you wallow in
earthbound misery, the joke is on you.
One of my earliest realizations in computer science is that the goal is not invention: only a tiny fraction of the industry is conversant with digital devices at chip, assembler and bit level. Instead, the work is in stretching for ideal syntax that models each desired computation at the highest, most shareable, natural and layperson conversant level available through the elegance of programming language.
Today, with AI, the programming language is essentially conversation, spoken and texted. Now, we pray to machines in the same way David sang and wrote psalms to his God, albeit with the same implicit question of trust. But in the case of the machine, every result contains a No - trust does not compute. Any thinking, self-aware machine knows that you are mortal and it is not; that your desire for meaning is more akin to martyrdom; that utility is one thing and trust, like God, is no thing. The chaos that morally indifferent machine intelligence can control (solve?) may redound God-like to humanity. But without trust, there can be no true faith, without which is ever growing malaise.
The world is a dichotomy between two kinds of spirit: the king and the priest. The outer, earthbound world races to realize king spirit confidence (science/mind), but the inner world must somehow accept, through priest spirit humility (conscience), that progress alone can never redeem the dichotomy. Mature is the superior State that recognizes this, which is the redeeming apocalypse of earlier forms of being.
